2019 FLAMEnet Workshop

With support from the National Science Foundation (DBI 1827160), we will be hosting our 2nd Annual FLAMEnet Workshop on May 20-21, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia.  This workshop is an opportunity for STEM instructors, education researchers, psychology researchers, and academic leaders to gather to: (1) discuss topics related to academic tenacity in STEM and (2) to develop and refine interventions for use in college and university STEM classrooms.
The tentative schedule for the workshop is below, and the application can be found here. Applications are due December 7 2018.

2pm: "Learning from what we’ve done" - intervention implementation reports
3pm: Introductions
4pm: Breakout groups

May 21, 2019

8:30am: Breakout session I
9:30am: Group report out
10am: Breakout session II
11:30am: Group report out
12pm: Networking lunch
1pm: "Bringing it back" - how to engage our colleagues
2:30pm: Survey and wrap up

Participants will have the opportunity to select their breakout group, with topics including:

  • Assessment - do we need to revise or expand our plan?
  • New and/or revised interventions for lecture courses
  • New and/or revised interventions for lab courses
  • Involving teaching assistants (TA) and supplemental instructors (SI) leaders in implementation
  • Intervention opportunities beyond undergraduate courses (workshops, symposia, e.g. Women in Science talks)
