Abstract

Resource Image The Chebyshev equation is presented as a vehicle to view series solutions techniques for linear, second order homogeneous differential equations with non-constant coefficients.

Description

This project requires the student to investigate properties enjoyed by special solutions to this equation known as Chebyshev Polynomials, while also learning something about the person for whom the equation is named.

Finally, a similar equation is introduced and the student is tasked to find necessary and sufficient conditions on two parameters which will guarantee two finite polynomial solutions to this equation.
