About the Group

Public Description

The Teachers and Arctic Scientists Collaborative (TASC) Workshop is designed to increase collaboration between middle school teachers and arctic research scientists while creating lesson plans that incorporate data from arctic research to integrate in the middle school classroom. Climate in the arctic is changing rapidly driving major changes in how arctic systems function. These changes can have global impacts. Incorporating current arctic issues and their global impacts in the classroom can connect both teachers and students to a region of the world that may seem abstract and unimportant to them. In addition, building strong relationships between scientists and educators can help improve scientists' ability to explain and share their research to the general public. Educators benefit by developing a network of scientists they can use as a resource when teaching science concepts. This workshop is funded by an Arctic Systems National Science Foundation grant.
