  • Biography

I'm an extended-term track academic professional lecturer at the University of Wyoming in the Department of Botany and the Life Sciences Program. My main job is coordinating general biology (fall and spring) and animal biology (spring only) undergraduate labs. Each year, approximately 900 students enroll in general biology, and this course plays a key role in preparing students for future biology classes as well as educating non-science majors on scientific thought. I design lab curricula and assignments, and mentor graduate teaching assistants. I will be attending the conference with my colleague, Jamie Crait, one of our general biology lecturers. We're excited to learn techniques, and develop lessons and activities, that will help us improve student learning of quantitative reasoning. Aside from coordinating labs, I also teach a graduate seminar on learning and teaching in biology and have taught general ecology. During my free time, I am working on completing my Ph.D. in Ecology at UW (I have an M.S. in Biological Sciences from Eastern Illinois University, and bachelors degrees in Geology and Biology from Virginia Tech). I enjoy snowboarding and snowshoeing during the winter, and during the summer I'm an avid camper and hiker. I also try to catch fish.
