  • Biography

I got my B.S. in Biology at Central Michigan University, and my PhD in Microbiology at the University of Oklahoma…. Boomer Sooner! I am now an Associate Professor at Ferris State University (Big Rapids, MI) and I teach introductory Microbiology (for non-majors) and Biology (for majors) courses, as well as a lower-level Microbial Ecology course and an upper-level course for Biology majors that involves reading and communicating primary literature. In my research lab, my undergraduate students have been working on identifying physical, chemical, and biological factors that affect a unique swarming pattern that is observed in two soil isolates belonging to the genus Paenibacillus. My long term goals are to incorporate my research into a classroom setting and to improve scientific writing and communication skills in our students!
