About Teaching and CourseSource
I am an Associate Professor of Biology at Bloomsburg University. I began my academic career as an undergraduate researcher at Ursinus College, where I studied synaptic transmission mechanisms in a C. elegans model. I continued my interest in neurological disorders in my graduate work at Rutgers University where I studied the shared genetics between autism spectrum disorder and language impairment. During my postdoctoral work at Geisinger Health System, I utilized genomic methods to determine genotype-phenotype relationships in individuals with developmental brain disorders. I have continued this work in my laboratory at Bloomsburg University and work with students to develop novel algorithms to detect pathogenic variants in neurological disorders.
I am a committed educator and I have taught undergraduate and graduate courses in genetics, bioinformatics, anatomy & physiology, and general biology. My goal as an educator is to inspire my students to reach their full academic potential through critical thinking while providing real-world examples to emphasize the role of science in everyday life. In each class, I emphasize both scientific skills as well as the importance of scientific literacy.
I am happy to join the CourseSource editorial team to promote scientific teaching and critical thinking using practical examples.
