Description

As a supplement to the rubric provided for Data Nugget modules, I created a rubric containing specific point values for individual portions of the module as well as specific guidelines for answering written questions. These rubrics would be appropriate for both high school and college level classes and could be easily modified to suit different Data Nuggets or different grade levels.

The point values provide a clear and concise explanation for how the assignment will be graded in regard to the expected content as well as a clear representation of how points are distributed. Some areas of the assignment, such as graph creation were partitioned into more discrete sections to allow for greater specificity in awarding of points.

Guidelines for the content of written comprehension questions was used to better aid the students in the expectations of their answers. Without solid expectations, students often fall into the trap of saying that they "did not know" that their answer needed to be more than one sentence. The clear directions in this rubric circumvent that situation and, in combination with the specified point values, increase the probability that a student will submit a solid assignment.
