We've started a site-wide blog, and there currently is an option to add this to an RSS reader... but most people would likely prefer to receive an email when new blog posts emerge.  We should have an easy, one-click "get email updates" button on the blog to offer email subscription. The readership will grow if we have good content and can  get  the content to the user, rather than hoping the user will visit the site...
