Overview:

Humans vs. Zombies (HvZ) is a game of tag played at schools, camps, neighborhoods, military bases, and conventions across the world. Human players must remain vigilant and defend themselves with socks and dart blasters to avoid being tagged by a growing zombie population. HvZ started in 2005, with Goucher College as a game of moderated tag and quickly grew a international fan base. HvZ is an always free to play game under the Creative Commons license.

Human Rules:

Humans must sleep on campus. If needing to leave campus for longer than 24 hours, they must contact the game moderators and remove themself from the game. Humans must keep an index card with their unique ID number on them at all times so that when they are tagged by a zombie they can distribute their ID card. Once tagged a human turns into a zombie in an hours time and must then seek after humans. Humans may stun zombies to avoid being tagged by blasting them with darts or socks to which a zombie will be stunned for 15 minutes. Humans must wear a bandanna around there arm or leg to symbolize that they are human.

Zombie Rules:

Zombies must feed every 48 hours or they starve they report their tags via a website that is easily used. Zombies must wear their bandannas on their head at all times while playing. HvZ is analyzed so that students can go from Calculus II and ODE modeling courses to apply what is learned through HvZ and the use of SIR modeling. SIR modeling is used for Parasite host relationships.

Zombie Infection SIR Equations:

    dH/dt= -k1HZ

      dW/dt= -k2WZ

                         dZ/dt= k1HZ + k2WZ - bZ

dC/dt= bZ

Parameters:

H=Humans; W= Warriors; Z=Zombies; C=Corpses; k1=rate at which humans turn to zombies; k2=rate at which Warriors turn to Zombies; b=rate at which Zombies turn to Corpses.
