About Teaching and CourseSource
Joe Dolence is an Assistant Professor of Biology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK). I have a passion for teaching that goes back to my years at Saint Scholastica when I was a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry. Over the years, I have taught introductory biology courses, immunology, molecular biology, stem cell biology, courses on vaccines and allergic disease, as well as biology communication/seminar courses. Currently, I teach immunology on-campus to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as immunology in UNK’s online biology Masters graduate program. In addition, I teach Advanced Molecular Biology, as well as biology senior seminar. When teaching, my main goal is to help my students connect the course content I am teaching to its real-world application. I want my students to leave lecture and lab understanding why what they just learned or the lab activity they completed is important to their life and/or career. To that end, I work to actively engage my students in the learning process to make those important connections.
I participated in the CourseSource Writing Studio in July 2019. I am an author and a reviewer for CourseSource. As a Course Editor for Immunology, I look forward to working with authors to share their novel and innovative approaches to teaching immunological content in this platform.
