I am an Associate Professor at Cornell University in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. My laboratory engages undergraduate and graduate students, K-12 teachers, and university faculty in research on teaching and learning. I teach non-majors evolution, and biology education research and curriculum development courses. My teaching philosophy is centered on the knowledge that students learn best when they actively engage in the classroom, when their conceptions of the material are acknowledged and used as a starting point for instruction, and when they see the relevance of the material they are learning.
