About Teaching and CourseSource

Having started my pedagogical training as an undergraduate, I was able to think deeply about and study the complex systems of teaching and learning in the context of biological disciplines throughout my graduate career. Given my broad training in molecular life sciences and STEM education, I have been asked to teach several courses spanning the biosciences curriculum, from introductory biology, through upper-level biochemistry and molecular genetics courses, and into graduate-level seminars on science communication. I have experience designing activities for and using a variety of active learning techniques within classrooms both large and small.

As both an instructor and a researcher, I continually strive to better understand what pedagogical and assessment strategies support student learning, as well as for whom and in what contexts they work best. An important resource in this endeavor, CourseSource allows us as a community to share our successful activities, promote the use of more inclusive, student-centered instruction, and highlight potential avenues for improvement in both teaching and educational research.
