From the first paragraph, “Background: It is important to master the ability to develop models. Modeling of dynamical systems plays a very important role in applied science, and compartment models are among the most important tools used for analyzing dynamical systems.

“Aim: The aim with this chapter is to learn more about development of compartment models.”

There follows an overview of compartment models with many rich illustrations and much attention to various numerical methods in solutions of the resulting differential equations using Matlab. Also included is a section on the limitations of compartment models. General issues such as equilibrium values, sensitivity analysis, stability are discussed. Multiple compartment models are considered also. A section on qualitative graphical analysis rounds out this excellent monograph.
