Abstract

Resource Image In this modeling scenario, we investigate the Earth's climate using a zero-dimensional energy balance model. Energy balance models are climate models that try to predict the average surface temperature of the Earth.

Article Context

Description

Energy balance models are climate models that try to predict the average surface temperature of the Earth from solar radiation, emission of radiation to outer space, and Earth's energy absorption and greenhouse effects.

Via an iterative process, we construct a first order nonlinear differential equation which models the global mean temperature of Earth.

A phase line analysis is conducted to characterize the solutions for which Earth is in thermal equilibrium.
