Description
From Winkel, Brian. 1994. Ant tunnels and Calculus. Mathematics Teacher. 87(4): 284-2878.
A simple mathematical model describing the time it takes for an ant to construct a linear tunnel of length x is produced from five intuitively acceptable assumptions. Using the definition of the derivative and the notion of an antiderivative, the model permits the investigator to discover the effects of change in tunnel length on the overall time it takes to complete the tunnel.
