Introduction:
The development of improved designs for chemical reactors as well as the prediction of optimal operating conditions in chemical production are based on an understanding of the rates at which chemical processes occur.
Also, the rate at which a particular chemical is produced by a reaction plays an important role in managerial decisions since the amount of time needed to produce a certain amount of a substance is inversely proportional to the rate at which the reaction occurs.
This can have important implications on the scheduling of the work force. In this module we will investigate mathematical models of reaction rates of simple zero-, first- and second-order chemical reactions.
