Knockout Construction (KOC) Module
In this module, students engineer genetic constructs to delete individual genes from the Tetrahymena genome. (Estimated time: 10 x 4 hour laboratory periods.)
Research Modules from the Ciliate Genomics Consortium
The Ciliate Genome Consortium enables student participation in the functional annotation of genes from Tetrahymena thermophila. Students determine the functions of Tetrahymena genes through localization, expression, and gene knockout or over-expression studies. These research activities are packaged into modules to facilitate their integration into the undergraduate biology curriculum.
