As someone who surprised myself by getting As my master's stats classes despite having high math anxiety, this quote resonated with me. "In individuals with lower math motivation, higher math anxiety consistently had a debilitative effect on math performance. This pattern potentially points to the importance of math motivation in mobilizing cognitive resources and regulating the effects of negative affect during math problem solving."  One of the reasons I joined the network is that students have been shying away from geospatial and GIS because of the big data involved which they interpret through a lens of math and related complexity anxiety. I have actually talked to our learning center because the challenges between math and geospatial science are similar. Student's anxiety of and perception of the subject is different than their ability to do well and part of the anxiety is thinking they need to know the answers ahead of time and being uncomfortable with it is okay to not know and have to try several times.

Wow.  I found this to be very insightful, especially as we approach students who place into development math.  I shared this with my math and cognitive psych professors.
