Collections vs. Projects vs. Resources
In terms of choosing whether Collections, Projects or Resources make the most sense for your network, these questions might help you:
1. Do you want the materials to be archived for future use?
2. How do you want the materials presented?
3. Do you think the materials would be useful to people outside of your network? (Collections and Resources are good for this)
Technically, Collections, Projects and Resources can all be used to archive, but they have different user-friendliness in terms of future use/access by others.
Collections are quick and easy for nice visuals, but individual posts are difficult to incorporate or link to outside of the Collections ecosystem (although you can Collect them into your own member Collection space).
Projects are the workhorses for collaboration and sharing files, but I don’t see them as the place for displaying or describing the materials (although Projects do have a Notes/Wiki section which can be used in this way).
Resources are ideally suited for situations where you would like to archive, broadcast and advertise things. Here’s an example of how a workshop can be archived using a Resource (no examples on QUBES yet; this one is from nanohub – https://nanohub.org/resources/14775#series). Note that Resources keep track of a lot of analytics that could be useful, such as # of downloads, ratings, people can ask questions, etc.
To round this all out, each of these choices (Collections, Projects and Resources) have privacy settings so you can control who has access.
