• Biography

  Short version: Husband, father, educator, researcher, moderate libertarian, and always a microbial supremacist!
  
  Long version: born in Compton, California, raised in Long Beach, California. Attended UCLA to earn B.A. in Biology. Attended Stanford University to earn Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (molecular genetics). Postdoctoral work in San Diego in bacterial bioluminescence, Arabidopsis genetics. Worked in biotechnology industry in San Diego for seven years with bacterial biopolymers. Taught at Occidental College for some years. Earned tenure at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. Teaching introductory cell and molecular biology, microbiology, and symbioses and parasitism courses.
