Bioinformatics - Investigating Sequence Similarity

The Bioinformatics - Investigating Sequence Similarity laboratory module, leads introductory biology students in the exploration of a basic set of bioinformatics concepts and tools. The exercise utilizes simple paper models to help students understand matrices and algorithms prior to use of web-based computational tools.



Incubator Details

Statement from the author (Adam Kleinschmit):

The authors are primarily interested in validating the scientific content of the activity. A secondary goal of the incubator would be to potentially expand the activity or add modules that would make the activity more comprehensive, yet at the same time allow the activity or parts of the activity to be easily adopted by instructors teaching at various levels.  Lastly, the authors are currently working on collecting student assessment and perception data related to the activity and would be open to additional participants from other institutions.
