Sustainability metrics and indices are measures of sustainability, and attempt to quantify beyond the general concept. Though there are disagreements among those from different disciplines (and influenced by different beliefs about the nature of the good society), these disciplines and international organizations have each offered measures or indicators of how to measure the concept.

Description

The biosphere has been dramatically altered as a result of human activity, and numerous signals, like as the alteration of the global temperature, the loss of biodiversity, and the pollution of urban areas, show that the world is currently on an unsustainable environment. The most pressing obstacle we have right now is turning the idea of sustainability into something that can actually be done in order to protect the health of both the current generation and those yet to come. In order for humans to overcome this obstacle, it is essential for them to have access to a reliable set of metrics in the form of sustainability indicators and indices. These metrics enable humans to locate the current condition in relation to conditions that have predominated in the past, and they also enable humans to develop pertinent perspectives to frame actions for the future.
