This module familiarizes students with brain research describing our physiological response to mistakes, and how making mistakes is a useful part of learning. Surprisingly, people with a growth mindset—those who believe that intelligence and ability respond to effort, and are not innate-- have measurably different brain activity after making a mistake. In other words, growth mindset individuals pay more attention to mistakes, leading to better error correction and deeper learning.
The student activity is a short journaling assignment. This module goes well with the “Answer checking” module, and the Powerpoint in-class version combines those two activities. “Introduction to Growth Mindset” is recommended before this one.
