Apply by December 31, 2021. Applicants must be able to attend all of the online meetings, including a kick-off meeting on Tuesday January 25 from 3:30-5:00 pm Eastern Time and small group meetings every other week (tentative Spring 2022 FMN meeting dates are 2/8, 2/22, 3/8, 3/22, 4/5, 4/19, and 5/3). Optional work sessions will also be available for all participants on the Tuesdays between meetings at the same time (3:30-5:00 pm Eastern Time).

All educators of undergraduate biology are welcome including faculty, instructors, postdocs, and graduate students.

The application collects basic contact and institutional information in addition to answers to the following questions:

  • Have you previously published in CourseSource? If yes, please provide the URL for your lesson and describe your role in the publication.
  • Have you taught the activity you are planning to write up for CourseSource?
  • Please let us know the teaching modality of the lesson you taught and plan on writing for CourseSource?
  • Please tell us about the activity you have taught and are planning to write up for CourseSource.  For example, what are the general biology concepts or skills?  For what class(es) is/are the activity appropriate?  What type of student-centered teaching does the activity include?
  • Which society learning goal(s) is your activity most closely aligned with? This link will open a new window - to find the society learning goals, click on the appropriate course (ex. genetics, ecology). It is fine to combine learning goals from multiple societies. Please note that not all CourseSource "courses" have society learning frameworks (such as introductory biology, professional development, etc.). If your lesson falls within a course that does not have society learning goals, please feel free to enter your own lesson learning goals here.
  • What are you hoping to get help with during the Online4BioWriting FMN?
  • What is the estimated date that you anticipate submitting your article to CourseSource?
  • What special skills or experience do you feel you will bring to the Online4Bio Writing FMN?

Once accepted into the Network, participants should commit to the following:

  • Participate in the full FMN (1/25-5/3/2022)
  • Writing and peer editing time in between synchronous biweekly meetings (2-4 hours/week)
  • Working with peer discussion and editing groups
  • Submit Lesson Article manuscript to CourseSource
  • Share materials on QUBES

It is important that all participants are able to commit to the full experience. The greatest benefits of these experiences are generated in the interactions and peer editing with colleagues. Your contributions will be critical to the success of this program.
