• Biography

  Originally from a small town in MN, I now have a dream job focused on teaching and mentoring at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. My graduate work on the molecular basis of neurodegenerative disease included a collaboration with my dissertation advisor Allan Levey and his colleagues in Reykjavik, Iceland. My work focused on characterizing candidate genes originally identified in the Icelandic population that may be linked to Parkinson’s disease susceptibility. In addition to my research interests in the molecular basis of neurodegenerative disease, I continue to seek out opportunities to improve science education and literacy. Now as a Senior Lecturer in the Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology program at Emory, I use student-centered, active-learning teaching methods to support students in an inquiry-based exploration of neuroscience. My teaching position allows me to work with amazing undergraduates in the classroom and with future faculty learning more about teaching and mentoring.
