This document is an introduction to bioinformatics using hemoglobin and sickle cell anemia.  Students are directed through the use of different bioinformatics tools to observe and understand the DNA sequence and mutation that leads to sickle cell disease.  This three-part case has been used as a stand alone introduction to bioinformatics, but can also be used as an introduction to the MoleCaseNet Nicholas Story case that explores sickle cell and treatments looking at protein visualization.
