Description
Molecular Case Studies (MCS) engage students in researching scientific literature as they explore and visualize biomolecular structures and use complementary bioinformatic resources. Each MCS contextualizes molecular details within real-world problems such as cancer or infections. This resource is a multi-week project to teach advanced students to author MCS in small teams. Through mentored, iterative writing and revision, students gain a deeper understanding of 3D molecular shape and its impact on function. They learn higher-level creative skills, team building, and leadership. The resource describes how to build students up to the level where they can complete the final writing assignment. There are prompts for assignment wrappers that flank the major project and a rubric to score the initial student drafts.
