Description
Students were provided the tutorials as well as a pre-assessment quiz (and associated dataset) prior to working with datasets from Peter and Rosemary Grant's finch work. The tutorials were used to supplement and provide a framework for quantitative skill and excel fluency needed to be successful in class working through the finch dataset activity. Students had to pass the quiz at 80% success prior to coming to class. While some students in the class had a high level of competence in using Excel and were familiar with most of the basic quantitative skills in the tutorials, many students mentioned that they really appreciated the resource and did refer back to it when completing the pre-assessment. Students also were observed referencing the tutorials during the in-class activity.
