Description
This module aims to develop a series of activities that introduce students to scientific research using mosquitoes as a model. With this purpose in mind, students will learn to identify different mosquito species and then collect and identify various types of mosquitoes found in the region where their school is located. The data collected will allow predictions or explanations of mosquito behavior to be made. Additionally, the data might be shared with entities such as the Vector Control Unit of Puerto Rico, students at the University of Puerto Rico, or others interested in conducting mitigation activities or related research on mosquitoes.

Learning objectives
- Recognize the importance of mosquitoes in the ecosystem and their function as vectors.
- Describe the morphology of mosquitoes in relation to their life cycle.
- Identify the function of each part of the mosquito's body.
- Analyze the characteristics of mosquitoes according to the species, genre, and sex.
- Design an action plan that promotes the prevention of diseases transmitted by these vectors in their communities.
Intended Audience
This module was designed for 10th grade students (15-16 years old) in secondary schools. It can also be useful for students at the beginning of their academic careers in university Biology programs.
