The primary goal of EENE is to collaboratively develop and field multi-site studies that answer important questions in economic education. Great ideas come from diverse groups, and multi-site studies provide large and generalizable samples.

At the same time, we want to make sure everyone that contributes to a study gets credit for their contributions. There are several ways a member can become an author of a paper that comes out of a study. We will use the CRediT system to transparently note the specific contribution of each author when EENE papers are circulated and/or published. These roles include (but are not limited to):

  1. Conceptualization: Members who come up with an idea for a study or work in a small group with other EENE members to develop an idea. Giving feedback to another group during the Annual Meeting is not enough.

  2. Investigation: Members who participate in a study where their own students are part of the study

  3. Funding acquisition: Members who meaningfully contribute to the design of a study and/or the writing of a grant proposal to fund such a study

  4. Methodology: Members who meaningfully contribute to the development of a study

  5. Writing: Members who contribute significantly to the writing of the paper

If a member feels that their contributions have not been correctly noted, they should contact the EENE Steering Committee within 3 weeks of the draft being circulated. The Steering Committee will consider all ENEE member concerns submitted before this deadline. Final decisions on Authorship and Ownership are the exclusive right of the EENE Steering Committee.

In addition to their substantive contribution, members must obtain approval from the local IRB for a particular study to be eligible to be an author on any papers that come out of that study. This approval might be a simple rubber stamp where the IRB says formal approval is not needed, or, depending on the contribution, the local IRB may require more documentation.

Authors who contribute in more than one way will be listed before authors who contribute in a single way. Within these two groups, authorship is alphabetical.

Multi-site studies are difficult to design and implement. For this reason, we believe it is unlikely that a member would want to take an EENE idea and implement it on their own. That said, if ENEE decides not to move forward with a study, but one or more members would like to move forward on their own, those members must give Conceptualization credit to the EENE members who originally developed the idea and acknowledge EENE for facilitating the idea generation in any publication.
