EDUCATION RESEARCH AND GOALS
Developing Concept Learning Strategies in Biology Education. Conducted research in the teaching of Mendelian Genetics using Human Examples. Presented paper presentations on Concept Learning Using Human Examples at NABT, NSTA, and HASTI.
Constructivism and Multimedia in Biology Education. Working with IBM in using Macromedia Authorware and Flash multimedia material to help facilitate learning of biology concepts. Presented workshops at NABT and HASTI on use of Multimedia and Student Presentations. Developing the relationship between multimedia and concept mapping in a Constructivist approach.
Distance Learning. Development of instructional designs that take the student beyond the confines of the classroom.
Pre-Service Science Training in Elementary Education. Joint project with the Indianapolis Zoo and Indianapolis Children’s Museum on “Integration of Informal Educational Resources in the Elementary Curriculum.”
Pre-Service Science Training of Secondary Science Majors. Project on lab activities for inner-city schools.
Public Health/Community Development/Education in a Global Engagement: Developing community on a global scale is primarily Latin America.
