Biography
I completed my academic journey in Geology with a BSc, MSc in Mineral Exploration, and a PhD in Geochemistry from prestigious institutions including the University of Ilorin, Ahmadu Bello University, and the University of Science and Technology of China. My PhD studies were supported by competitive scholarships from the Chinese and Brunei governments, reflecting my commitment to academic excellence. Throughout my studies, I maintained exceptional academic performance, graduating with distinction in both my MSc and PhD programs.
My professional career began at Ahmadu Bello University, where I served as a laboratory technologist in the Department of Geology for over a decade. During this time, I advanced to lead roles in various laboratories, including the geochemistry and thin-section laboratories. My expertise in laboratory instrumentation and analytical chemistry was further recognized when I was appointed to a technical committee tasked with overseeing a new multi-user science research laboratory. My leadership in calibrating complex instruments like the XRF machine and organizing training workshops significantly contributed to the university’s research capabilities.
In 2017, I transitioned to an academic role at Bayero University Kano, where I currently hold multiple positions including departmental project/seminar coordinator, Museum curator, and head of the Petrology Laboratory. My practical experience in groundwater exploration and consultancy has enriched my teaching and mentoring roles. I continue to integrate my expertise in geophysical surveys, remote sensing, and geochemistry into innovative research, including a promising patent currently in the testing phase.
Throughout my career, I have contributed significantly to the academic community through my research, with 21 high-impact peer-reviewed articles published across leading journals. My work spans applied geochemistry and the application of remote sensing to geology. I have also served as a peer reviewer and editorial board member for several prestigious journals, further demonstrating my expertise in the field.
In addition to my academic and research achievements, I actively engage with professional organizations and have played a critical role in an NGO dedicated to advancing mining and environmental protection. My contributions to the NGO’s programs, including winning the NMGS Presidential “Entrepreneurship Award” in 2024, highlight my commitment to applying my geological expertise for societal benefit.
