Engaging students in the reading and analysis of primary literature is not only an import skill, it also promotes interest and motivation for many students. This guide provides an example of three assignments that provide students a scaffold to begin to engage with primary literature. The first two assignments engage a whole class in a single paper. The third assignment draws on the skills learned, and asks small groups of students to engage with a paper and share with the whole class. If appropriate, the first two assignments could be repeated with a new paper before moving on to the third assignment.
