Description

We propose a pedagogical framework for teaching the basic statistical concepts found in many introductory biology courses using the "rule of four" originally developed as part of the reform calculus movement. Using examples in which students address a single biological question through multiple representations and analyses, we hope to support teaching strategies that lead to students developing an initial but genuine conceptual understanding that can serve as the foundation for more advanced coursework.
