Description

This is a series of 3 in-class activities. Pennies 1 focuses on the concept of what is bullshit and how to debunk it, students are instructed to utilize fermi estimation in groups and share their thinking. Pennies 2 focuses on turning concepts of fermi estimation into actual R practice, students complete the worksheet and the attached CoLab worksheet. This is intended to show students that R uses the principles of scientific management and is an efficient way to debunk BS. Pennies 3, the last of the series, integrates the idea of generative AI and bullshit. Students return to the idea posed in the first lab; "Would a Bill Gates fortune in pennies be enough pennies to go from the earth to the moon and back when lined up next to each other?". Students complete a worksheet and interact with ChatGPT to determine if they can effectively debunk the claim.
