Description

This activity explores a specific gene (egfr) that is mutated in certain cancers. Students will interpret primary data and protein structures to determine the molecular function of EGFR, how the drug gefitinib targets cancer, how, where and how often resistance mutations arise, and how doctors determine when to prescribe gefitinib. This activity can be completed inside or outside of class and is intended to expand upon the Gene Cards activities and lead into the Image Analysis activity; however, it can be assigned independently of these activities as well.
