  • Biography

    Kara graduated from the Schreyer Honors College at The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Animal Bioscience and and M.S. in Immunology and Infectious Disease. Her masters thesis focused on vaccine immunology, specifically, the effects of vitamin A on B-cell responses to vaccines. She completed her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Colorado State University. Her dissertation focused on host-pathogen interactions of intracellular bacterial pathogens and host macrophages. In her current position at Moravian University she is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Biological Sciences. Along with her undergraduate research team, she continues to explore host-pathogen interactions of virulent Burkholderia species. She teaches a range of courses including mircobiology, immunology, vaccine history, the human microbiome, and a first-year bioscience seminar. In her free time she enjoys hiking, paddleboarding, and photography.
