  • Biography
Dr. Jenny Hazlehurst has been a postdoc in the Dept. of Entomology at University of California, Riverside since January 2017. Her primary mentor is Erin Wilson Rankin, but she also works with Quinn McFrederick and Christopher Clark at UCR. Jenny’s background is in pollination ecology and animal behavior. She received her Ph.D. from Tulane University for her work on the cascading effects of nectar robbers on pollination mutualisms in the Andes and her PhD advisor was Jordan Karubian. At UCR, Jenny’s work is focused on how the foraging ecology of bee and hummingbird pollinators can have cascading effects on pollination services and the spread of pollinator pathogens in California. Jenny also founded and runs the STEAM Storytime outreach program in partnership with public libraries in the cities of Riverside and L.A., which brings STEAM professionals into public libraries to read stories and do activities with children ages 4-11. She also coordinates a statewide citizen science effort to document plant-pollinator interactions in California, the California Pollination Project.
