About

The Headwaters Research Experience (HRE) is a unique student research opportunity where we guide students through the process of science. It is a 10-week program targeted towards the advanced-placement or high-performing high-school, community college, and introductory-level undergraduate students. We aid the students in generating a scientific question that they wish to investigate, developing a hypothesis, designing appropriate methods, analyzing the data, interpreting the results, and disseminating their work in the form of both a presentation and a manuscript. Our student-driven research program is unique because we pair students with professional scientists or graduate students as their mentors. This project channel will serve as the location to share all of our students' fantastic achievements, for individuals to discuss their experiences, and a place to ask questions about our student research opportunity.

  • If you are a graduate student looking to gain mentoring experience, we can supply compensation for your services and provide mentoring training. This is a great opportunity for professional development. Effective communication, relationship building, and the ability to aid in designing completely unique research projects spontaneously are all skills you will gain by being a mentor.

  • If you are a professor or academic advisor, we encourage you to explore the Headwaters Research Experience and determine if this could be a program you can utilize to satisfy any potential science education outreach opportunities, boost their CV/college applications, or provide students with a way to potentially satisfy research requirements. We encourage discussions on any ways we can help further you on a successful path in science and education!
