Advancing inclusion and antiracism in the college classroom

This guide has many useful tools for

Instructions

  1. Identify a resource you would like to analyze for existing UDL alignment. The resource can be anything (a single activity, informational material, etc.), but we suggest something small and modular so you can better focus on the UDL Guidelines.
  2. Note or describe the learning objectives for the material. As you perform the mapping, remember that preserving the objectives (or goals) is a key component of a UDL approach.
  3. Analyze how the resource, without modifications, aligns with the UDL Guidelines. It is not expected that your resource will address all nine. Consider both the content of the resource and how the learner will interact with the material.
    1. Mappings of the BIOMAAP resource, Reflective Writing, are included as examples of ways you might analyze your resource:
      1. Use highlighting and commenting to annotate your resource material directly
      2. Use a spreadsheet of the nine guidelines to notes about how your resource addresses a particular guideline:
        1. Template and Example (example is in the third tab)
        2. You will need to make a copy of the sheet if you'd like to use it ("File" → "Make a Copy")
      3. Write out a bulleted list
      4. You do not have to use any of these templates either! Feel free to print the material, mark it up, cut it up, rearrange it, employ a swarm of sticky notes or anything else that will help you work with the guidelines and material
