Tentative Agenda for BLUE Fall 2019 FMN

August 19-23 (Webinar)

 

Meeting 1:Introduction to BLUE FMN & Educational Modules (Monfils)

  • Meeting content: Introductions/Working Groups/Schedule/BLUE Scholars/Prepping your syllabus
  • Homework: Placing within curriculum (identify date of implementation); review Following the Data and Data is the New Science modules; connect with Small Groups

 

August 26-30 (Webinar followed by Small Groups)

 

Meeting 2:Backwards Design (Linton)

  • Meeting content: Learning objectives and planned implementation/Discuss Following the Data module 
  • Homework DUE: Placing within curriculum (identify date of implementation)
  • Homework DUE: Complete the Following the Datamodule
  • Homework: Develop/select learning objectives for adaptation or module; plan for assessment and adaptation or module development

 

September 2-6 (Webinar followed by Small Groups)

 

Meeting 3:Resources for module implementation and introduction to making an adaptation (Mayfield, Phillips, Ellwood)

  • Meeting content: Introduction to database (Arctos, iDigBio, GBIF)/Discuss Data is the New Science/Discuss developing and modifying a module
  • Homework DUE: Complete the existing Data is the New Sciencemodule 
  • Homework DUE: Draft 1 of learning objectives
  • Homework: Draft assessment; initiate planning for your adaptation or module; identify resource needs

Meeting 4:Small group discussion and sharing of module implementation plans

  • Meeting content: Review learning objectives/consider assessment ideas/review ideas and timeline for adaptations or module/discuss resource needs
  • Homework DUE: Defined set of learning objective
  • Homework DUE: Draft I of assessment
  • Homework: Exchange and review learning objectives and assessment; draft I of adaptation or module outline

 

September 30 - October 4 (Webinar followed by Small Groups)

 

Meeting 5:Impediments to Implementation – addressing student and faculty needs (Linton, Monfils, Catlin)

  • Meeting content: Discussion of implementation/student obstacles/faculty concerns/resource needs
  • Homework DUE: Draft I of adaptation or module outline
  • Homework DUE: Share comments on learning objectives and assessment
  • Homework: Exchange and review subset of adaptations or modules

  • Meeting Content: OER formatting and options; TIEE special issue; module status; discuss subset of adaptations or modules/review implementation experience and edits for faculty implementing modules
  • Homework DUE: Review and edits of adaptations or modules from Meeting 8 
  • Homework: Continue to develop and revise adaptations and modules; format for OER adaptions and modules; prepare mini presentation on lessons learned and future efforts
