Black Box Journal Club

The NIMBioS Working Group Unpacking the Black Box is hosting a journal club around the topic of teaching modeling in undergraduate biology courses.  Our goal is to survey the literature to get a better sense of what is known about how to use models to increase student understanding of biological concepts, the nature of science, and quantitative reasoning skills.  Anyone with an interest in this topic is welcome to read along - each paper will be announced in a separate blog entry, with discussions occurring in the comments.  To access the Blog's RSS feed, click here.   Here's the schedule:

  • Biweekly on Mondays 10-10:30 Eastern, starting Nov 16 (Drew LaMar leading)

  • Biweekly on Tuesdays 2-2:30pm Eastern, starting Nov 17th (Carrie Diaz Eaton leading)

  • Biweekly on Wednesdays, 12-12:30pm Eastern, starting Nov 18 (Kristin Jenkins leading)

  • Biweekly on Fridays, 2-2:30PM Eastern, starting Nov 20 (Sam Donovan leading)
