I intend to develop a case study that educators can choose and use all or certain parts of it for environmental science class and/or intro biology class. The case focuses on food contaminants and provide students with authentic monitoring datasets to strengthen their quantitative skills. The second part will discuss a particular pesticide, glyphosate, which is the active ingredient in the weed kill, Roundup. Students will learn about wide spread weed resistance to glyphosate and discuss the process of genetic engineering and molecular mechanism of glyphosate resistance. Last, students can discuss a recent lawsuit against glyphosate and provide their opinions. These are initial ideas and comments/suggestions are welcome! You are also welcome to join the project!
