Our team, Quantitative Skills and Science Identity (QSSI), met in the fall of 2021 to discuss and develop a methodology to assess the effectiveness of Data Nugget/Scientist Spotlight activities. We have worked on finding established and reliable instruments to measure 1) quantitative skills, 2) interest in developing quantitative skills, and 3) a sense of belonging in STEM. This presentation shares our findings, and goals moving forward.

This resource includes a YouTube video of our lightning talk, our slides, and links to other resources including where to learn more about scientist spotlights from BIOME 2021. Our lightning talk briefly discusses our goals and plans.  We should note that we have similar aims to BioGraphI, the NSF RCN (Research Coordination Network) project, which has the goal of training faculty to increase quantitative literacy for biology students using counter-stereotypical scientists’ work.
