Investigating Trade-offs among Mammal Traits

This app draws on a large species-level dataset with metabolic, life history, and ecological traits of most living and recently extinct mammal species. Users can select and plot traits, fit linear models to the data, and query displayed datapoints.

Abstract

This app allows users to investigate trade-offs among metabolic, life history, and ecological traits for most living and recently extinct mammals, from the data provided by the PanTHERIA project in Jones, et. al., 2009. Users can plot different pairs of variables, fit linear models that describe relationships between variables, and interactively query displayed datapoints to identify particular species. This app was developed for use in BISC 111: Introductory Organismal Biology at Wellesley College by Jackie Matthes.
