When I used to give talks on my PhD research, which involved both real and virtual pocket gophers, I realized the power of simulated systems – and a good natural history story – to help elucidate the underpinnings of seemingly complicated processes. For the past ~15 years, I have been an author, editor, marketer, manager, and herder of rogue software developers at SimBio, a company best known for our teaching tools that use sophisticated simulations of biological systems to promote learning through experimentation and discovery.
