• Biography

  I am teaching faculty in the Department of Biology at Virginia Commonwealth University. My research was on the distribution of ammonia oxidizing and nitrite oxidizing bacteria in engineered systems for water reclamation. My research used mathematical analysis to answer biological questions. I put a lot of effort into integrating word problems into my Biology courses that require students to think critically and see how mathematical formulas can describe life. This is mostly accomplished with stoichiometry and growth curves. I also teach an online course called Quantitative Biology that focuses on getting students to perform statistics on a data set to answer a biological question.
