Sustainability Challenges for Open Resources to promote an Equitable Undergraduate Biology Education (SCORE-UBE)
CourseSource and QUBESHub
Summary
CourseSource and QUBES came together to develop a collaborative prototype of CourseSource articles on the QUBESHub platform. This ongoing collaboration provides CourseSource with a sustainable platform and confirms our commitment to freely available resources for instructors and authors. QUBES is benefiting from an expanded ontology, new features, a revised workflow, and the expanded network of CourseSource users. An important recommendation from the SCORE network meeting was to share infrastructure that benefits multiple partners. Integrating CourseSource and QUBES amplifies the impact for both groups while increasing efficiencies and user features. As a result of the success of the prototype, the scope of this collaboration has expanded to include a full migration of CourseSource to QUBES.
Outcomes
-
New CourseSource website on QUBES - in development
-
Successful funding of an NSF IUSE proposal (Building Adaptability for Teaching Online through Peer-Reviewed, Active-Learning Resources and Professional Development) based in part on reviewer’s positive perception of the collaboration between CourseSource and QUBES
Lessons Learned
Keep final goals in mind, even during a pilot: While funding was for a pilot project, keeping the ultimate goal of a full migration of CourseSource into QUBES in mind was key to creating a prototype that was subsequently seamlessly expanded to a full migration.
Implementing collaborative team management strategies is key:
-
Trust and good listening among partners was key to efficiency and success
-
Allocating specific responsibilities to individuals on the team improved efficiency
